About Ty's Summer Sno . . .

History:   

   Ty's Summer Sno was started in Perryville, MO back in 1993.  I was 16 years old at the time.  The idea was originally my dad's.  He likes to reminisce about the "old days" . . . when he was a kid; when a can of soda cost only a nickel; when he worked an eight hour day for 12 cents; when kids had to walk to school in 10 feet of snow with no shoes, uphill both ways; when dinosaurs roamed the earth . . . . You get the idea.  Anyway, one of his fondest memories was that of the Sno Cone Man driving his cart, and ringing his bell up and down the street.  So . . . he suggested that I do the same. 

    As with most of my dad's ideas, we all thought it was the most ridiculous thing that we had ever heard.  I got to thinking though . . . driving around in a brightly painted van with circus music blaring from it might be pretty funny.   So, for the comedic value, I started checking into this "crazy" idea.

    I didn't really like Sno Cones all that much, and that posed a problem.  I couldn't hardly sell something that I didn't like myself.   Well . . . I recalled that while in Florida a couple years earlier, I had had something called Hawaiian shaved ice.  It was marvelous; nothing like the Sno Cones that I was used to from back home.  Remembering this experience, I decided to take my dad's idea and use it to introduce shaved ice to Perryville, MO.  So, I made a few calls, bought some supplies, bought a van (which you can see on the right), and I was selling Shaved Ice on the streets of Perryville in no time (actually, there was a bit more to it than that, but you get the idea).  After 5 years of running the route, we decided to expand, and we opened up a Sno Shack (also in Perryville which you can see below).

    
My wife, Rachel and I (to the left) have been operating Ty's Summer Sno every summer for 9 years now.   It's loads of fun.  We love it.  The kids love it.  Their parents love it.  Everyone Loves It!!  You know . . . . "I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for . . . ." (Oh wait a minute, wrong frozen treat).

Anyway, this summer, Ty's Summer Sno will be operating from the Cape Girardeau Hut and our brand new Jackson Hut.
